Sunshine at the villa!

Christmas is coming up at last but instead of fearing bad weather, possible rain, snow or even storms, we are hoping to be at our wonderful Petrino Dream villa soaking up the sunshine. Having done this for the last 2 years, it is becoming something of a family tradition - and Christmas is about traditions anyway. At least that's our excuse!

Not unlike the UK, quite a few shops are open over the holiday though obviously not on Christmas Day. As for the weather, so far we have enjoyed only SUNSHINE each time we have been. We usually stay over for New Year as well and find the atmosphere in Chania very enjoyable - people singing around the large Christmas tree in the town's market square and everyone having a good time.

The nice thing about spending such a holiday on Crete is that you can choose what to do - spend time on the beach enjoying the sun or just relaxing by the villa pool or even, if you fancy seeing a little snow, you can take a drive up into the mountains. That is something we plan to do this time and I hope to bring back some photos to share with you - snow in Crete. Sounds wonderful!

Lagoon type beaches & boat trips

There is so much to enjoy on the island of Crete. From beaches to boat trips, restaurants to historical sites and more. One family who stayed at Villa Petrino Dream had this to say:

"We had a great stay at villa Petrino. It is well equipped and everything works. The places we recommend to visit are:

Elafonisi a lagoon type beach the caribbean of Crete. You need to take your own food and drink and get there early if you want to hire parasols etc. Boat trip from Kissamos to Gramvousa. More lovely views and fort on the top of a hill Beach at Georgioupli is worth a visit Knosses Palace is crowded in the mornings but is open to 19.30 so could go later in day.

Chania Market on a Saturday morning is well worth a visit, it is very interesting and a great opportunity for souvenir shopping. Chania is very beautiful with a great harbour"

Exploring The Western End Of Crete

We have had a great time at this lovely villa and have enjoyed exploring the western end of the island.

Highlights

1. Trip down to the Samaria Gorge, a long day out leaving here at six a.m. and getting back at 8p.m. Very Tiring but the scenery is spectacular so well worth the effort.

2. Driving from Hsra Skakion to Loutro down a very steep and bumpy track. A major test for our thirsty Fiat Diablo, but it passed with flying colours.

3.Afternoon spent at Argiroupolis enjoying drink in one of the many shady tavernas listening to the sound of the many waterfalls.

4. Drive down Gramvousa headland and walk to an amazing beach at the bottom of a steep track.

Thanks to Martin and Debbie for all the linen changing and pool cleaning etc. and also for recommending places to visit. we are sorry to be leaving

12th Birthday Celebration At Crete Villa

Many of the holidaymakers who come to enjoy Villa Petrino Dream have families. One family who recently stayed at the villa had a 12 year old whose birthday they were able to celebrate whilst in Crete.

"We spent two weeks at this lovely villa and we all really enjoyed it. I celebrated my twelveth birthday here and had a great time. We went down to the cove just before the road to Kokkino Horio, it is really nice down there. In the evening we went to one of the restaurants in Kalives right by the sea. I loved the pool and went in everyday. "

The local restaurants and beaches near to Villa Petrino Dream are ideal for holidaymakers of all ages and tastes - from families with young children to older couples on a get-away-from-it-all holiday.

A British family on holiday at the villa in July had this to say:

"Spent a lovely week here. Villa very enjoyable - web site does not do it justice.

Restaurants - We liked Elphis in Plaka, fish taverna ( approx in the middle of Almerida sea front)

Beaches - Almerida - windsurfing and canoes available
Kalives a larger beach but the same safe shallow water.

Go-Kart Centre on Main highway just past Chania.

Comforts Of Home In Crete

We seem to have more and more instances of return bookings to our villa, so we must be doing something right! Two people who stayed at Villa Petrino Dream last year and who can't wait to return left us this lovely message of thanks:

"We have had a lovely relaxing holiday here, just what we needed with all the comforts of home. There are plenty of good Tavernas and cafes locally in Plaka and Almirida. (but avoid the seafront on windy days)

Most provisions can be bought at Kostas village store in Placka, and he gives the occasional free gift if you become a regular. Hoping to return sometime soon"

Villa Petrino Dream Opens At Last!

The very first holidaymakers in Villa Petrino Dream were from Carlisle in Cumbria, UK. They enjoyed their stay so much that they kindly left the following comments in our brand new visitors' book ....

Firstly, thank you for sharing your villa with us it is very beautiful, the pool provides a welcome addition. We found the supermarket near Kalavis the most convenient, friendly and well stocked. As for eating places, so many to choose from, and offering a variety of meals for the whole family. we particularly enjoyed the restaurants in Almierida on a warm evening you can sit and watch the sun go down.The mountain road to Sfakion is spectacular, take the road to
Vrisses off the main highway. Rethimon is well worth a visit with its old harbour.
